Trócaire welcomes ‘Climate Envoy’ appointment

Mary Robinson appointed as UN Special Envoy for Climate Change

The Irish bishops’ aid agency Trócaire has welcomed the appointment of former President Mary Robinson as the United Nations Special Envoy for Climate Change.

Reacting to news of the July 14 appointment, Trócaire’s executive director, Éamonn Meehan, said: “Mary Robinson's appointment is of global significance and should be welcomed by everybody who cares about the future of our planet. I have no doubt that she will add much-needed urgency to this role and will help to focus the minds of world leaders on the crucial steps that must be taken to tackle this enormous issue."
