New Bishop of Ossory installed at ceremony on the weekend

Ossory Diocese has, officially, a new bishop, as Bishop Ger Nash was installed on Sunday, September 13, following his appointment as Bishop of Ossory on July 29. The ceremony of Installation, which took place in St Mary’s Cathedral, Kilkenny, was led by Archbishop Dermot Farrell, and attended by parishioners, family, friends and bishops from dioceses across the country.

With this Installation, the dioceses of Ferns and Ossory are united in persona episcopi, from Latin ‘in the person of the bishop’. In his homily, Bishop Nash said, “The Church that we are laying the foundations of, in the Dioceses of Ossory and Ferns, will be a collaborative Church.” He also said that the new role – as Bishop of Ossory – “will require from me not just a new set of skills, but a rearrangement and a delegation of work on a large scale. As that work is delegated, it will have an impact on the lives, work and ministry of many people in both dioceses.”
