Pop superstar Katy Perry is now free to buy a convent in Los Angeles after a judge ruled against the nuns’ attempt to sell the property to a restaurateur.
The hit singer’s offer last year to buy the Roman villa on an eight-acre hilltop estate for $14.5 million (€12.7 million) was rejected by the Sisters of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, who wanted to sell it to Dana Hollister, a restaurateur who planned on turning the convent into a boutique hotel for $15.5 million (€13.6 million).
Block
However, the sisters’ plan was put on hold when the Archdiocese of Los Angeles took to the courts to block the sale, arguing that the nuns did not have the authority to sell the property to Hollister.
A Superior Court Judge has approved the archdiocese’s motion and attorneys for Katy Perry said they were pleased with the ruling which has “cleared the way” for her to buy the property.
