Uncle Paddy Christmas appeal

The Uncle Paddy Christmas appeal is underway, and for the 66th year is appealing to readers of The Irish Catholic newspaper to support the drive on behalf of families and pensioners in need across Ireland this year.

"Because of the economic situation at the moment and the loss of bonus week for social welfare recipients, the hardship many families are now suffering will put a huge strain on all charities," said Paddy Condren, honorary secretary of Uncle Paddy, who insisted that Uncle Paddy will work to ensure that people in need are not forgotten this Christmas. "We collect money, foodstuffs, new and used toys and everything that can turn into Christmas joy. Then, in time for Christmas Day our ëflying squadsí bring joy to many," Paddy said.

People wishing to assist the Uncle Paddy appeal can send gifts and donations (which will be acknowledged) to: Patrick Condren, Sallygrove House, Cortown, Allenstown, Kells, Co. Meath. Tel: (046) 9247155
