Booking demand for public transport in the North of Ireland is “strong” ahead of the papal visit events later this month, a spokesperson for Translink has said.

Translink, which provides train and bus services across the North of Ireland and to Dublin, said that there are numerous transport services available on August 25-26 to bring over 5,000 pilgrims to attend the World Meeting of Families events.

“In addition to our scheduled services, we are running a number of bus and train specials. We have provision for over 5,200 passengers to the papal visit events in Dublin and bookings are strong,” a spokesperson for the corporation said.

“This is set to be a major event and Translink look forward to playing an important part working with the NTA (National Transport Authority) to ensure its success.”

They added that pre-booking of travel is essential and are urging customers to plan and book their journey in advance at www.translink.co.uk/popeinireland/.
