Ms Susan “Una” McCann has celebrated her 100th birthday, marking a century of life rooted in faith, family and community in west Belfast.
Born on March 31, 1926, in Cavendish Street, Ms McCann has lived most of her life within sight of Clonard Monastery, which has remained central to her life of prayer and service.
A former civil servant and Aer Lingus employee, she later worked with PricewaterhouseCoopers in Belfast. Alongside her late husband Joe, she was a founding member of both Clonard and Springmount Credit Unions, giving many years of voluntary service.
A daily Mass-goer and long-time member of the Women’s Confraternity, Ms McCann also served as a Minister of the Word and an Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion.
Family, friends and parishioners gathered for a special Mass in Clonard to mark the occasion, where she received an Apostolic Blessing from Pope Leo XIV.
Reflecting her outlook, Ms McCann said: “I don’t want presents but I would like presence.”
