Belfast clergy host festival to promote generosity

An inter-denominational festival aimed at promoting cross-community friendship and global generosity has been launched by Belfast’s Lord Mayor.

Now in its third year, the 4 Corners Festival, which runs from January 29 to February 8, grew out of conversations between Fr Martin Magill, parish priest at Sacred Heart parish and Rev. Steve Stockman of Fitzroy Presbyterian Church.

It is organised annually by a small group of Christians from all four corners of the city and aims to entice people to travel outside of their normal comfort zones, seeing new places and meeting new people. The events of this year’s festival also have a particular focus on the themes of generosity and imagination.

“We are still encouraging people to move outside their comfortable areas, but the two themes this year of imagination and generosity encourage people to imagine a better city and a better world,” Fr Magill told The Irish Catholic.

The festival programme is wide-ranging, including art exhibitions and an art tour, music, discussions, storytelling, talks, a cross community prayer breakfast and a dinner for refugees.
