A voice in the wilderness on abortion

Dear Editor, I was saddened to hear that Baroness Nuala O'Loan felt compelled to resign from the Medical Ethics Committee over its support for an extension of the British abortion law to Northern Ireland (IC 18/12/2014).

What a loss to this important committee to lose a person of integrity, who appears to have been prepared to challenge a group think mentality that thinks all is right with the British abortion law, one of the most liberal in the world that facilitates abortion on demand with little consideration for the human rights of the developing unborn.

What is most shocking of all is that Baroness O'Loan should feel a voice in the wilderness among those whose mission is to ensure medical ethics, "non maleficence" the physician’s guiding maxim “first do no harm”.

Yours etc.,

Frank Browne,
