Holy Land archives online

The early modern history of the Holy Land can now be revisited through historical texts, drawings, and even photos, through a website that allows users to browse these items from any part of the world.

The Israel Antiquities Authority launched the web page containing historical archives from the Holy Land preceding the Israeli Declaration of Independence in 1948, a period known as the British Mandate for Palestine.

Users can choose by location where the documents were drafted or found. The items vary from government requests for excavations to maps of the Holy Land. It also features a number of administrative documents like Jerusalem city council notes.

The original documents are found at the Rockefeller Museum in Jerusalem.  They were digitised using a special method that allowed the documents to be scanned and uploaded without damaging the sensitive materials.

Shroud of Turin app

For decades, the Shroud of Turin has been hidden from public view, with a rare exception every few years. However, a new phone application allows users unprecedented access to the famed cloth.

The multilingual application features high-definition photos, as well as background and research information on the Shroud.

Users can magnify images revealing ëhiddení details such as the red and white wax drops from candle ceremonies during the burial. The app also includes some of their findings, like forensic analysis and preservation data.

The app is available to download from the iTunes app store.

Mobile Mass search engine

The Spanish website misas.org has developed a search engine for mobile phones to find churches and Mass times for locations throughout Spain.

This system allows you to locate the nearest church, see their schedules and plot the easiest route to reach them by foot, car or public transport.

It includes opening times, confessions as well as information on facilities for disabled persons.

The system operates on the iPhone, BlackBerry, Android, Nokia and different tablet technologies.

Misas.org has registered almost 14,000 churches in Spain and more than 50,000 separate schedules for Mass.
