The faithful can find strength in the Gospels

Dear Editor, I found the Gospel message this week very life giving in a time when many in our Church are on the defensive and very angry. Luke 21:5-19 V.14 Jesus says “Keep this carefully in mind you are not to prepare your defence because I myself shall give you an eloquence and a wisdom that none of your opponents will be able to resist or contradict”.  Jesus also says that faith in God is what gives us human beings the power to transcend failure and humiliation.

As a person who was badly betrayed and hurt by the Church I have experienced this in my life. It was only when I let go of my anger which I held on to for years that I was able to let the Good News of the Word of God in the Gospel give me new life and hope in the future. We are all by our Baptism called to be witnesses of the transforming power that comes to each one through believing in the wonderful Good News in the Gospels.   As we read this Gospel let the words go deep into our heart and give us peace and joy.

Yours etc.,
