Students reject co-opting by pro-abortion campaign

A short video by a group of pro-life students, has received more than 24,000 YouTube views. Beginning with a group of students saying they had voted ‘Yes’ in May’s marriage referendum, ‘Equality starts here’ records them challenging how pro-choice campaigners sought to co-opt the referendum result in the poll’s immediate aftermath.

“I was frustrated about how the referendum was being hijacked by the pro-choice crowd,” Niall Guinan, one of the students in the video, told The Irish Catholic, “and the fact that it was so quick, just after the vote they were out campaigning – I just found that frustrating”.

Katie Murray of Students for Life said “it’s refreshing that differences can be put aside as we work for the ultimate human rights protection, the right to life”.

Cora Sherlock of the Pro Life Campaign described the video as “a very positive and timely development”, publicising how people with different views are determined to work together to defend Ireland’s constitutional protection for the unborn.
