Settlers have once again attacked Palestinians in the occupied West Bank. Once again, a young Palestinian has been killed. At least four villages are reported to have been targeted by Israeli extremists.
According to Palestinian sources, a 16-year-old Palestinian from the Kaabne Bedouin tribe was killed during an attack by Israeli settlers on several villages north of Ramallah in the occupied West Bank. Four other Palestinians were injured, the Palestinian Ministry of Health announced on Wednesday.
The settlers reportedly attacked the villages of Jiljilyya, Sinjil and Abwein. A video released by the Israeli human rights organisation ‘B’Tselem’ shows, among other things, a group of settlers accompanied by Israeli army vehicles driving a large flock of sheep through a Palestinian village. One sequence shows an army vehicle blocking a road to ensure that settler vehicles can pass through.
Theft and clashes
Palestinian media reported, citing eyewitnesses, that dozens of armed settlers entered the villages and stole sheep and agricultural equipment, among other things. This led to confrontations with Palestinian residents. The army has not yet issued a statement on the incidents.
According to the Palestinian news agency Wafa, Israeli settlers also attacked a Bedouin community near Khan al-Ahmar, east of Jerusalem, on Wednesday. The army reportedly arrested one Bedouin during the incident.
Violence by extremist Israeli settlers against Palestinians and Palestinian property has increased massively since Hamas’s attack on Israel in October 2023.
EU foreign ministers agreed on Monday in Brussels to impose sanctions on several settler organisations and their leaders. Israeli ministers criticised this as politically motivated and hypocritical.
