Dear Editor, Women were always looking after Jesus’ needs while he was on earth. Mary, his mother, looked after him until he was 30, and later stood by the cross. On the first Easter the women went to anoint Jesus’ body but found his empty tomb, and a woman recognised him when he called her name, ‘Mary’.
Jesus told the women to tell the disciples that he would meet them in Galilee. Why have we not got women priests? If they were good enough to look after Jesus then surely they are good enough to look after his children.
In my ministry, I have met many pastors from different churches. When we discussed theology relating to Christian living they believed in the same Jesus as we hold. They were married good-living people, male and female.
Is it not time that we in the Catholic Church took a new look at celibacy in the priesthood for support and companionship?
If something drastic like the above doesn’t happen soon we will have empty churches on Sundays.
Yours etc.,
Bro. Malachy Buckley
