Photo: National Inventory of Architectural Heritage Parishes across Ireland have been encouraged to apply for heritage grants to cover costs of eligible projects such as repair and preservation of historic churches, presbyteries, and parish halls.
Both the Built Heritage Investment Scheme (BHIS) and the Historic Structures Fund (HSF) provide grants to projects prioritising historical conservation and honouring the heritage significance of their buildings.
BHIS offers grants of up to €50,000, covering up to 80% of eligible project costs. BHIS applications are assessed by local authorities, while HSF applications are assessed by a national panel. HSF provides grants of up to €200,000 and are used to fund repairs and conservation of buildings of regional or national importance.
Parishes are advised to speak to their local conservation or heritage officer before applying for grants, and also have access to the National Inventory of Architectural Heritage for assistance in establishing historical significance of their buildings.
Applications for projects planned for 2027 close at the end of October 2026.
