School staff from across Derry Diocese assembled last week for an event of faith and learning at the Catholic Schools’ Religious Education Conference, organised by the Derry Diocesan Catechetical Centre. The event gathered over 1,200 educators for a two-day event with the theme ‘Drawing New Maps of Hope’.
The keynote speaker was Melodie Wyttenback, Executive Director of the Roche Centre for Catholic Education and a faculty member for the Lynch School of Education and Human Development at Boston College. Ms Wyttenback’s address was followed by a panel discussion on the issues Catholic education faces currently.
The event also offered 21 workshops in a number of areas, where attendees could explore practical approaches, share experiences and learn from colleagues across the Diocese.
The event also included Mass by Bishop Donal McKeown, and an impromptu choir was formed under the direction of the music department at St Columb’s College, Derry, which enhanced the celebration of the Eucharist on both days of the event.
