Inaugural Evangelium Ireland conference held in Maynooth.
At the inaugural Evangelium Ireland conference held in Maynooth at the weekend, the Papal Nuncio, Archbishop Charles Brown encouraged young people not to be afraid to be counter-cultural when talking about their faith.
The Evangelium conference on the theme ‘Explaining the Catholic Faith in the Modern World’ attracted over 50 young people for a residential weekend of guest lectures, discussion forums and daily Mass. Guest speakers included Fr Marcus Holden and Fr Andrew Pinsent, the founders of the Evangelium project; Dr Mary McCaughey, lecturer in Systematic Theology, St Patrick’s College, Maynooth; and Dr John Murray, lecturer in Moral Theology in Mater Dei.
On Sunday morning, Archbishop Charles Brown gave a talk on the theme of ‘Pope Francis’ vision for the Church’, in which he encouraged the young audience to be missionaries for their faith and not to be pigeon holed by controversial issues.
