New Holy See UN representative named

The Holy See has named Archbishop Bernardito C. Auza as its new Permanent Representative to the United Nations in New York. The former Apostolic Nuncio to Haiti replaces India’s Archbishop Francis Assisi Chullikatt.

A native of the Philippines, Archbishop Auza was ordained in 1985 and is a veteran Holy See diplomat, having served in Bulgaria, Albania and Madagascar in addition to service with the Vatican Secretariat of State until 2006. He was Apostolic Administrator to Port-au-Prince in Haiti when the devastating earthquake of 2010 struck.

Archbishop Chullikatt departs his UN post after the requisite four-year service there.
