Meath parish celebrates diocesan patron

The Parish of Clonard, Coarlstown, Kinnegad and The Downs will celebrate the life of St Finnian, patron saint of the Meath diocese, on June 7 with a pilgrimage and outdoor Mass.

The pilgrimage will begin at St Etchen’s school Kinnegad at 12.45pm and proceed along the old R148 road to Ard na Reilige, Clonard – an ancient site most likely to be the place where St Finnian founded his monastery in 520AD.

The walk will be followed by an outdoor Mass for the feast of Corpus Christi, celebrated by Bishop Michael Smith at 3pm at the Ard na Reilige site.

This event will mark two things – the Year of Consecrated Life and preparations for the 1500th anniversary of the founding of the monastery in 2020. For more information contact 044-9375117 or kinnegadparish@eircom.net
