About 1,000 walkers took part in procession
Despite atrocious weather conditions crowds from Louth, Armagh, and Monaghan attended the annual festivities to celebrate St Brigid’s Day in Faughart and Dundalk, Co. Louth.
A triduum of prayer in two parishes set the tone for the religious festivities. School children and adult groups made over 2000 St Brigid Crosses in straw or rush. Fr Tom Hamill celebrated one of three Masses at the Shrine of St Brigid. Fire and water was blessed on top of Faughart hill before the start of the 38th consecutive torchlight procession at night, which was led by the carrying of the Relic of St Brigid, and followed by about 1,000 walkers praying the rosary and singing hymns. A large decorative candle brought from Kildare was lit at the shrine.
