Jesuits launch online calendar

The Jesuits in Britain have launched an online calendar for 2014 to mark the bicentenary of the restoration of the Society of Jesus by Pope Pius VII in 1814.

The calendar features illustrations of 12 Jesuits from across the world who have been active in various ministries over the past 200 years.

Stonyhurst alumna Ellen Riley was commissioned to paint the portraits; but after her death at the age of 24 in 2012, the paintings – in acrylic and oil on canvas – were completed by her husband Cédric Charleuf.

The calendar was produced to acknowledge and celebrate the work that has been done by so many over the past 200 years, and includes brief descriptions in several languages of the lives and ministries of the 12 Jesuits

The portraits include poet, Fr Gerard Manley Hopkins SJ; theologians Cardinal Henri de Lubac SJ, Fr Pierre Teilhard de Chardin SJ and Fr Pedro Arrupe SJ.
