Former Irish International Rugby player, Ronan O’Gara will be one of the speakers at the Pastoral Congress for the World Meeting of Families in August.

O’Gara, who is currently working as an assistant coach with the Canterbury Crusaders in New Zealand, will speak on ‘Celebrating Family and Sport’ on Thursday morning, August  23 at 11.30am.

Joining him on the panel will be Olive Foley, widow of Munster rugby star Anthony Foley, Aidan O’Mahony, the five-time All-Ireland winning Kerry GAA player and Bishop Paul Tighe, Secretary of the Pontifical Council for Culture.

Former Manchester United player, Fr Philip Mulryne OP  will be moderator of the panel.

The former Ireland flyhalf who joined New Zealand’s Crusaders ahead of the 2018 season on a one-year contract after leaving the French club Racing 92, announced last month that he was extending his contract with Crusaders until the end of the 2019 season.  Currently Crusaders top the Super Rugby league in New Zealand.

In an RTÉ documentary in 2014, O’Gara expressed his gratitude for his career. “That’s what I thank God for, I believe there is definitely someone looking after me in that regard,” he said.
