A ‘meme’ developed by The Irish Catholic to coincide with World Youth Day has gone viral on the social network Facebook. Developed to coincide with the celebration of World Youth Day in Krakow, Poland, the meme had engaged more than 110,000 people in just two days.

Designed to highlight the huge crowds who travelled to Krakow, the meme reads simply “What’s that? You say the Church is irrelevant?” over an image of Pope Francis holding his ear. The Pope replies: “Sorry – I couldn’t hear you over the two million young people at World Youth Day!”

Launched on Sunday morning as the Pontiff was celebrating the closing Mass with the young pilgrims, by lunchtime on Tuesday, the image had been seen by 111,090 Facebook users and had been shared by 684 people.
