I will not support those who devalue life

Dear Editor, It would appear that Fianna Fáil are trying to round up disillusioned deputies from other parties who courageously voted against the recently enacted Protection of Life during Pregnancy Act. This is somewhat ironic as the Fianna Fáil party in effect voted for the legislation. Micheál Martin will of course contest this and state that a free vote was granted to all deputies and that 14 of the 19 deputies actually voted against it. What he cannot contest is that the leadership of the party, notably himself, Niall Collins, Barry Cowen, Billy Timmons, and Timmy Dooley voted for the enshrinement in our law for the first time the right to terminate the life of the unborn as a result of suicidal ideation.

Undoubtedly there will be other Bills proposed in the future to introduce broader abortion which will more than likely be supported by the aforementioned. Fianna Fáil historically were very much the pro-life party but even it has succumbed to the liberal media and now puts power before value. I will not support any such party that devalues life and will only support independents and hopefully a new party whose core policy/value is the protection of the most innocent. This opportunity will arise in May 2014 with the local and European elections.

Yours etc.,

John Burke,

Clontarf,
