Almost 1,800 students from 20 secondary schools in Cork will begin a fast to fundraise for the care of the elderly with the launch of the annual SHARE Christmas campaign next weekend.
SHARE (Students Harness Aid for the Relief of the Elderly) will launch its 45th fundraising campaign at the SHARE Crib, Daunt’s Square (near Grand Parade), Cork, on Sunday, December 14 at 6pm.
The Lord Mayor of Cork, Cllr Mary Shields, with Bishop John Buckley and C of I Bishop Paul Colton, will join the students at the opening ceremony at the specially-erected Christmas crib. The Army Band of the First Southern Brigade will play Christmas carols to entertain the crowd.
The students will collect in the city centre until Christmas Eve to fundraise for 156 secure housing units for the elderly throughout Cork city and the Brother Jerome Kelly daycare centre.
