Concern at Russian church arsons

Police examine extremist Muslim link

Russia – Faith leaders have expressed concern at the latest attacks on Christian churches in the Muslim-majority Tartarstan region. At the end of November, two places of worship were torched, bringing to seven the number of arson attacks against the Christian community this year. According to local media reports, police are investigating a radical Wahhabi Muslim link to the crimes. President Rustam Minnikhanov has offered a reward of one million rubles for information leading to the capture of the attackers, while Christian and Muslim leaders have appealed for calm and the maintenance of good inter-faith relations.
