Co. Armagh parish celebrates bicentenary

Tynan & Middletown Parish marks 200 years

The People of Tynan & Middletown Parish, Co. Armagh celebrated the Bi-Centenary of St Joseph’s Church, Tynan this year with three very special ceremonies.

Fr Sean Moore PP was celebrant at Mass for the Anointing of the Sick. In his homily Fr Moore reminded parishioners that the sick and housebound members of the community play an important role by the ministry of prayer they undertake for us all during their own suffering.

This was followed by a Community Harvest – the church was decorated by Marion McGee and the Altar Society Team, and the Rev. Denis Maguire, Armagh & Killylea Methodist Minister was the guest preacher.

Finally Cardinal Seán Brady con-celebrated Mass for Mission Sunday to mark the church anniversary; he was joined by Dean Colm Curry, a native son of the parish and a number of other visiting clergy.

A booklet outlining the history of the church was produced by the Sacristan Patrick Brady and the celebrations concluded at the Market House, Middletown with refreshments.
