The New Ross Carmelite Sisters invited youth to the Avila Carmelite Centre on Saturday, February 28 for a day of education on the Carmelite way of life. “We decided to invite men and women…26 came and they traveled from Kerry, Cork, Sligo, Longford and Belfast to be with us,” said Sr Gwen, speaking to The Irish Catholic about the event.
The day began with introductions to the origin of the Carmelite way of life and brief talks on St Teresa of Avila and St Therese of Lisieux.
During lunch, Sr Gwen reported that attendees were happily chatting with each other and the friars and nuns. It was “highpowered,” said Sr Gwen. “We couldn’t get them out of the canteen.”
At the end of the day, attendees filled out an evaluation sheet, and Sr Gwen noted that the feedback was overwhelmingly positive. Many shared that “it was nice to be with a like-minded group where they could talk about their faith…chatting with the friars and the nuns, being informed about the Carmelite order, and just sharing together the day of prayer and quiet.”
“We were very pleased, there was a huge energy there in the Avila Centre…all were on the journey searching for what is God’s will for them and how to use their talents,” said Sr Gwen.
