Bishop Daniel Delany commemorated

A large crowd of Brigidine sisters, Patrician brothers, and people from near and far gathered at the Delany homestead on the Bennett family farm in Paddock, Co. Laois on July 8 for a Ritual of Remembrance to mark the 200th anniversary of the death of Bishop Daniel Delany, Founder of the Brigidine Sisters and the Patrician Brothers.

A commemorative plaque was unveiled by Sr Louise Cleary, Australia, Leader of the Brigidine Congregation, and Bro. Jerome Ellens, India, Leader of the Patrician Congregation. Fr Willie Hennessy PP Castletown, officiated at the ceremony. Some members of Camross Ceoltas provided the music to mark the occasion and Sr Carmel McEvoy thanked the Bennett Family for being such wonderful custodians of the homestead.

The participants then made their way to St Fintan’s parish church, Mountrath for a Mass of Thanksgiving celebrated by Bishop Denis Nulty. The day concluded with refreshments in St Fintan’s parish hall.
