Armagh developing new model for youth ministry

The AL!VE youth event is open to all young people aged 16-30

This weekend the Armagh Diocesan Youth Commission (ADYC) is hosting a youth event in Cookstown, Co. Tyrone in the first of a calendar of events responding to suggestions from a listening exercise with young people of the diocese.

Dermot Kelly, Diocesan Youth Director, said the idea for the listening session came after a successful summer of events that included diocesan participation in three national pilgrimages and their first summer camp. “We were looking at what to do next and decided to have a listening exercise to find out the different needs and wants of young people and to listen, value and respond to their needs,” he said.

The AL!VE youth event is open to all young people aged 16-30 and consists of an evening of interactive games, music and socialising, a Youth Mass, and a talk from guest speaker Mickey Harte, the Tyrone Football Manager.

ADYC hopes that this event will spark the development of new opportunities for young people in the Cookstown area, but will also offer a model for youth ministry that can be replicated in other parishes of the archdiocese in the New Year.

AL!VE will take place on Saturday, December 7 in St Brigid’s Parochial Centre, Cookstown. For more information contact: 028 3752 3084 or email armaghyouth@yahoo.co.uk
