A goodie bag for Father’s Day

Father’s Day is coming up on Sunday, June 21 and it’s time to get planning the perfect day to spend with your dad. Choosing the perfect gift can at times be a difficult task but sometimes the way the gift is presented can carry more meaning.

Start the day with a homemade goodie bag designed especially for the occasion and fill it with clues to the surprises you have in store for the day! As long as you are spending quality time with your dad and enjoying the day together, picking out a present doesn’t matter as much. You can present this gift bag to your grandfather or uncle as well.

For the Father’s Day goodie bag you will need a brown paper lunch bag, patterned paper, scissors, glue stick and sticky tape.

At the top of the bag where the opening is, cut two horizontal slits towards the centre. Fold the tabs over diagonally and tape them down to make the collar of the shirt. It’s best to use tape so the bag can be opened easily after you fill it with goodies. Cut out a tie shape from the patterned paper and glue this to the centre of the shirt between the collar. Fill the bag with sweets or turn the gift into a lucky bag. Shred recycled pieces of paper and fill the bag with these scraps. Add some wrapped sweets and shake the bag to make sure everything gets evened out. Tape the collar shut again.

Quotes

You can also fill the bag with objects or quotes written on paper scraps as clues to surprises you have planned for the day. Or you can simply write down a list of planned activities on paper and fold these up. Let your Dad choose a piece of paper at random and whatever is written down, follow this activity. This can add fun and mayhem to an otherwise scheduled day. For example, use patterned paper lunch bags for more colourful looking shirts and match with plain paper for the tie. Try to find summer themed paper for an Hawaiian look.

The shirt and tie goodie bag also works well as a personalised gift bag. Pop the wrapped gift for your dad inside the bag and write his name on the tie.
