Young adults urged to attend faith conference

Flyers are hung about the city proclaiming not Beyonce and Rihanna concerts, but “Mary Inflames the Embers…Are You Ready?”

This is the title of the 16th Catholic Young Adults’ Conference which will take place August 20-21 in Dublin’s All Hallows College for ages 18 to 40. The event typically draws more than 200 people.

Committe member Declan Lawlor explains that Catholics in this age group often feel alone in their faith.

“A lot of people feel like lone wolves on their own in the Irish Church at the moment, thinking that nobody practises, or that they’re on their own,” says Declan. “They look around the Church and it’s more senior people, so to come [to the conference] and see there are people of faith in my age group is important.”

The event will be a chance to participate in workshops, listen to 11 speakers on topics ranging from the Irish economy to Catholic art, and attend social events and holy hours while learning about Mary and growing in faith.

“It’s a special boost for everybody spiritually,” says Declan. “It fills them up for the year ahead, whether they’re going back to college or school or back to their jobs in September.”
