World’s ‘greatest leader’

Pope tops Fortune top 50 list

Fortune magazine has named Pope Francis as the greatest leader in a world “starved of leadership”.

Compiling a list of 50 leaders across all spheres who have inspired their followers to make the world a better place, Fortune placed the Pontiff ahead of Germany’s Chancellor Angela Merkel, the Dalai Lama and U2 singer Bono.

“Francis has electrified the Church and attracted legions of non-Catholic admirers by energetically setting a new direction,” Fortune states, adding that the Pope has also "set a striking new tone through his personal example of modesty and inclusiveness — this is what a great leader does”.
