What is racism?

Dear Editor, Reading the bishops statement and Nuala O Loan’s article on racism, one must ask what racism is. Is it racism to ask why we are spending so much of our hard earned taxes on huge benefits for non-Irish when our own children are going hungry? Is it racism to ask why the money we pay for National Health insurance is spent on what can only be described as luxuries for non-nationals while our own children are denied medical care? Is it racism to be annoyed when non-nationals commit serious crimes and then the State spends huge money defending them, adding an extra burden on an already overburdened taxpaying family?

We hear of crimes against one section being racist but when the opposite happens it is not considered racism and gets much less attention.

Yours etc.,
