Vincentian Fathers were not selling Jackie Kennedy letters

Dear Editor, I refer to an article in The Irish Catholic of September 11, regarding the Mrs Jackie Kennedy letters (Mary Kenny, ‘Jackie Kennedy’s letters: they also belong to future history’).

The article refers to the Vincentian Fathers as “planning to sell Jackie Kennedy letters”.  I wish to state that the Vincentians Fathers were never at any time planning to sell the letters from Mrs Kennedy to Fr Leonard. On the contrary, when we discovered that the letters were to be auctioned we verified our ownership of them and immediately withdrew them from auction.

We have since returned these private letters to the Kennedy family.

Yours etc.,

Fr Eamon Devlin CM,

Vincentian Fathers,

Provincial Office,

Raheny,

Dublin 5.
