Vatican to host conference on grandparents

Founder of Catholic Grandparents Association meets Pope Francis

An Irish-inspired initiative to honour the role of grandparents in handing on the Faith has won a papal seal of approval.

As Pope Francis celebrated the ‘Pilgrimage of Families’ with 150,000 pilgrims in St Peter’s Square at the weekend, the Vatican announced plans to host an international conference on grandparents in 2014.

Following the Mass, Co. Mayo woman Catherine Wiley Founder of the Catholic Grandparents Association and her husband Stewart met Pope Francis.

Next year’s conference, sponsored by the Pontifical Council for the Family, will look at
the theme ‘Catholic Grandparents Association: A way forward’.
