Vatican plays down Nicea 2025

The Vatican has refused to confirm reports of an agreement between Pope Francis and Orthodox Patriarch Bartholomew I of Constantinople (pictured) for an ecumenical meeting in 2025.

Following an interview given by the patriarch in which he stated that such an agreement had been reached for a gathering in Nicea, Turkey on the 1,700th anniversary of the Council of Nicea, Fr Tom Rosica, spokesman of the Vatican press office moved to play down the story.

“No formal announcement or convocation of this event has come from the Vatican. It is very early to jump to conclusions.”
