Rome joins international community in calls for abductees’ release
The Vatican has joined the international community in calling for the release of the Nigerian schoolgirls kidnapped by the militant Muslim group Boko Haram.
Issuing the appeal via a press conference at the Vatican, Fr Federico Lombardi, the Vatican press office director said: “We add our voice to the many appeals for the liberation of the girls and for them to be returned to normal life again. We hope and pray that Nigeria, thanks to the commitment of all who are in a position to help, may find the way to end the situation of conflict and hateful terrorism which is a source of incalculable suffering.”
Boko Haram’s actions, Fr Lombardi added, needed to be met with “the strongest condemnation” in their “denial of any kind of respect for life and for the dignity of the human person”.
