The Jesuit Refugee Service (JRS) this week launched #ThePowerofVote campaign, calling on citizens to use their vote in the upcoming European Parliament elections to protect the rights of asylum seekers and refugees.

Recent practices in Europe, such as the absence of safe and legal pathways to protection; the extensive use of detention of asylum seekers; and the worsening shortage of dignified living conditions show that EU common values and principles are under threat.

Power

“European citizens have the power to vote for a Europe that remains true to its founding values and principles; a Europe that leaves no one behind,” said David Moriarty, JRS Ireland Assistant Director.
