US senators appeal for Abedini intervention

United States – A number of senators have issued a joint letter to President Barack Obama urging him to again intervene in the case of Christian Pastor Saeed Abedini, imprisoned in Iran for his faith.

Praising Mr Obama for having previously raised the pastor’s case with Iranian President Hasan Rouhani during the pair’s historic telephone conversation on September 27, the 23 senators write: “We believe this new action by the Iranian regime merits additional response. It is imperative for the United States government to speak out boldly on behalf of Pastor Saeed.”

Fresh concerns have been raised about the wellbeing of Pastor Abedini who has suffered beatings at the hands of his guards since his sentencing to eight years in prison. He has now been transferred to the notorious Rajai Shahr (Gohardasht) Prison.
