A group of about 75 young people, including representatives from NET Ministries Ireland, Youth 2000 and Newman College, gathered in Tuam parish for a conference called ‘Days of Discipleship’ organised by a mission team from the Fellowship of Catholic University Students (FOCUS) in the US.
FOCUS works on American university campuses, building young people into dedicated disciples and ‘sending’ them to do the same to their fellow students. The conference in Tuam was modelled on FOCUS’ biennial Student Leadership Summit (SLS), which was attended by some 16 Irish representatives in January.
The conference included a daily keynote address, Adoration, training sessions on evangelisation, Bible study, prayer, ‘spiritual multiplication’ and breakout discussion sessions.
Fr Shane Sullivan said the conference was a “rich experience”, especially for “those of us who can be isolated and without fellowship of that depth in our own corner of Ireland’s mission field”.
