Tributes paid to Mercy sisters killed in car crash

Archbishop Eamon Martin has led tributes to the two Mercy sisters who died in a car accident this week.

Sr Frances Forde and Sr Marie Duddy from Belfast were killed in a collision near Newry, Co. Down that also involved a PSNI vehicle.

Archbishop Eamon said he was “very sorry” and that his “sympathies and prayers are with their congregation and loved ones”.

Sympathy

Speaking on behalf of Bishop Noel Treanor, Down and Connor diocesan spokesman Fr Eddie Magee extended his “deepest sympathy to the family and friends of both sisters”.

“Over the years, both sisters have blessed the diocese with ministries ranging from healthcare and education to spiritual guidance and cross community dialogue,” he said.
