Traffic plan would slice through Dublin church carpark

A Dublin priest has expressed concern after the National Transport Authority (NTA) published plans that would see a new road driven through his church carpark.

Fr Fergus O’Connor, parish priest at our Lady Queen of Peace Church on Merrion Road, said half of the church’s carefully rebuilt car park would be removed under the plan which is supposed to ease traffic at the notorious Merrion Gates.

Fr O’Connor told The Irish Catholic that “the issue is not about money, it is about the church wanting to be able to facilitate their parishioners, particularly their elderly parishioners who need to drive, in order to come to Mass”.

A public consultation process is now open to all stakeholders which will close on December 16.
