Former journalists reveal SVP focused book
Two long-standing members of the St Vincent de Paul (SVP) society, former journalists, Bill Lawlor and Joe Dalton, have compiled a book explaining the part the charity plays in Irish society.
The book, entitled The Society of St Vincent de Paul in Ireland – 170 Years of Fighting Poverty (New Island Books), includes a number of contributions from members of the society.
The contributions illustrate that, although the changing nature of poverty constantly requires new and flexible forms of response by SVP, it is through the actions of ordinary people that the spirit and vision of the society endures.
