SVP appoints Co. Derry woman as new regional president

The St Vincent de Paul Society has appointed a Co. Derry woman as new Regional President. Anne Irwin, a native of Coleraine, has been a member of SVP for 25 years and “brings a deep understanding of the organisation’s work, alongside a clear vision for its future.”

Ms Irwin served as Area President until May 2024, and “Among her key achievements was securing government funding to tackle fuel poverty, ensuring effective distribution and support for vulnerable communities across the borough and beyond,” the organisation said in a statement.

“I embrace the spirit of renewal as described by Blessed Frédéric Ozanam who said, ‘Do not be afraid of new beginnings. Be creative. Be inventive.’ I am truly honoured to take on this role and remain deeply committed to serving our members and those we support with dedication, compassion and integrity,” Ms Irwin said commenting on the appointment.

She “fully understands the importance” of her new position. “I will uphold its responsibilities with humility and respect, working side-by-side with our members. Change is inevitable, but together we will move forward with compassion, courage and unity.”
