The Sisters of Mercy Western Province, in Ballinasloe, Co. Galway has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Irish charity Vita, as a renewal of a longstanding partnership to fight hunger and climate change in Ethiopia and Eritrea.
Working together, the Sisters of Mercy and Vita are delivering sustainable livelihoods to thousands of farm families, enabling them to be free of aid dependency through a combination of projects that secure access to clean water, renewable household energy and food. These projects are delivered through partnerships with local farmers’ groups, women’s networks, co-ops and local government.
“Our role, as we see it, is to protect the integrity of creation,” said Sr Caitlín Conneely, Province Leader. “We are confident that the partnership with Vita not only enables us to achieve this, but also it allows us to reach into the very heart of the communities we serve and make a real difference.”
