A Romanian deacon who ministered in Naas Parish for over seven months will be Ordained to the Priesthood on June 24. Deacon Laurentiu-Daniel Timaru, known in Ireland as Deacon Laurence was in Naas/Sallins Parish from October 28, 2024, to June 2 this year.
He is back to the seminary in Iași, Romania and will be ordained with another eight diocesan priests and two Franciscan priests. “I’m just grateful that I get to be ordained in this Jubilee Year of Hope, because we are ministers of hope.”
He said he doesn’t remember when he heard the calling to the priesthood, “I just knew that since I know myself.” He said that most children want to be a policeman or a fireman, “but I just wanted to be a priest.”
He would like to encourage young boys who are considering priesthood. “Don’t be afraid if you hear the God’s calling… just say ‘yes’. Because if God calls you, He will take care of everything.”
The deacon said that after the ordination he needs to stay in Romania for at least two years, but after that, if Bishop Denis Nulty accepts him back, he would like to come to Ireland as a priest. Bishop Nulty will be present in his ordination, he said. “I know that Bishop Denis will accept me.”
