Pro-life voters in the North are targeting the SDLP for the party’s refusal to intervene over Westminster’s imposition of abortion on the region.

As part of their ‘Fight Back’ campaign Precious Life held protests outside the constituency offices of SDLP leader Colum Eastwood and Mark H Durkin.

Organisers say the protests are in response to the SDLP’s actions at Stormont on Monday, October 21, 2019, when the SDLP walked out of a last-minute attempt to stop the imposition of abortion laws from Westminster, forcing the Assembly to close.

Director of Precious Life, Bernadette Smyth said: “The SDLP – who still spout the lie that they are a ‘pro-life party’ – have betrayed the unborn babies of Northern Ireland by walking out of the Stormont Chamber.

“They pulled the life-line from our unborn children. They walked away and abandoned unborn babies in their greatest hour of need,” she said.

According to Ms Smyth: “There is a huge amount of public frustration and heartbreak over the imposition of abortion on Northern Ireland, and much of this is directed at the SDLP, who walked out on the unborn child at the time that mattered the most, after years of claiming to be a ‘pro-life’ party”.
