The Pro Life Campaign (PLC) hosted its annual fundraising dinner, ‘Ceiliúradh Cois Life’, in Dublin on Saturday, September 19. The event, which celebrated its tenth year, welcomed 630 supporters for an evening of solidarity and friendship.
In a speech, PLC CEO Eilís Mulroy paid tribute to former British MP and government minister Ann Widdecombe, who was the inaugural speaker at the first PLC fundraising dinner, and was murdered in July.
Guest speaker Breda O’Brien, columnist and broadcaster, expressed her hope at seeing so many young people in the audience, and encouraged them to change the culture by starting conversation.
“When it comes to these kinds of conversations, we are not trying to show people how clever we are or defeat their arguments,” said Ms O’Brien. “We are carefully, cautiously trying to build human connections, acknowledging that in the current state of our culture that our views will appear very weird, and trying to persuade, not hit people over the head with a mallet.”
