Pontiff to travel this May
Pope Francis has announced details of his planned visit to the Holy Land.
Speaking to those assembled in St Peter’s Square for his Sunday Angelus last weekend, the Pontiff stated that his visit would take place between May 24 and 26, with the intention of commemorating the historic meeting between Pope Paul VI and Patriarch Athenagoras in 1964.
The trip, he explained, begins in Ammam, Jordan, before the onward leg, May 25, to Bethlehem and Jerusalem. The Jerusalem visit will see an ecumenical meeting in the Church of the Holy Sepulchre (pictured) with Patriarch Bartholomew of Constantinople and representatives of the Christian Churches of the Holy City.
“I ask you to pray for this pilgrimage,” the Pope concluded.
