Pope Francis is to auction his Harley Davidson motorcycle to raise funds for a soup kitchen feeding Romeís homeless people. The motorcycle is one of two donated by the famed American bike-builder in June to mark the companyís 110th anniversary. Its sale is intended to benefit the work of the Don Luigi di Liegro hostel and soup kitchen at Termini station. Operated by Caritas, the hostel aids and feeds some 1,000 people daily.
Reacting to news of the Popeís donation and auction plan, Msgr Enrico Feroci, the director of Caritas Rome said: ìIt is a precious gift that has once again made us happy in feeling the closeness of our bishop to the poor of the Church of Rome. We are deeply grateful to Pope Francis for this.î
